Info about the grape variety

Grape variety: Freiburger
International (planted after 1900) | 6 HA in Switzerland (0,04%)

An artificial cross of Sylvaner × Pinot Gris, Freisamer was obtained in 1916 in Freiburg, Germany. Its name comes from the contraction of the city name “Freiburg” and “Dreisam”, the river that crosses it. This grape variety, mainly cultivated in the canton of Friborg and sporadically in the rest of Switzerland, is also called “Freiburger” in reference to its origin in the homonymous German town. This is a relatively late variety of grape varieties, resulting in fruity and tight wines with pronounced acidity.
