Info about the grape variety

Grape variety: Humagne Blanche
Indigenous | 29 HA in Switzerland (0,2%)

Specific to Valais, Humange Blanche is one of the oldest grape variety in Switzerland and in Europe. It was mentioned in Valais in a parchment in 1313. Humagne Blanche was one of the most widespread grape varieties in Valais until the 19th century before being supplanted by Chasseals and other introduction until causing its virtual extinction in 20th century. White humagne has the ancient reputation of being the wine of lords and bishops; it is also known as "the wine of childbirth" according to an old, mistaken belief which wanted it to be rich in iron. It gives excellent gastronomic wines, dry, with notes of lime blossom. Its acidity allows it to keep for several years; it is then that it reveals a rustic personality, tinged with aromas of resin.
