Aromatic mutation of Savagnin Rose, itself a color mutation of Savagnin Blanc (Heida or Pagan in Valais), Gewürztraminer takes its name from the word Gewürz (spice in German) and Traminer (name of Savagnin in Germany). It is an early variety adapted to cool climates that is not cultivated much in Switzerland. Gewürztraminer produces intense and aromatic white wines, which remind the nose of the scent of rose, lychee and gingerbread.

A variety of disease resistant grape (PIWI) made from the crossing of Pinot Gris, Chasselas, Riesling and Seyve-Villard. The Johanniter was established in 1968 at the Freiberg Research Center in Baden-Württemberg (DE). It bears the name of its creator Johannes Zimmermann. In Switzerland, it produces light aromatic wines with aromas of citrus, exotic fruits and a spicy finish.
